Ryan Prior, director, co-writer and producer of the documentary Forgotten Plague explores the enduring fight with Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS). ME/CFS affected Ryan’s life so dramatically it inspired him to create a film documenting the experience of other sufferers of the condition. Ryan explores the daily struggles many sufferers face, from initial diagnosis, to the failure of tradition medicine to adequately treat the condition, to the continual misunderstanding of ME/CFS.
Many individual stories throughout the film reflect the impact of failing treatments, co-occuring psychological effects, and complex dynamic of family and illness. Forgotten Plague explores both the scientific or medical understanding of ME/CFS, and the personal and socio-historical impacts of the condition.
