The long-awaited NHMRC ME/CFS Advisory Committee’s draft report has been released for public consultation. To encourage as many of us as possible to submit a response to the report, we’ve decided to host a ‘read-a-long’! If you would like the full schedule of the ‘read-a-long’, it can be found here.
Over the next three weeks, we will be ‘releasing’ one-third of the paper in three installments, with some help to guide you through it. On the fourth week, we’ll send out some notes on how to put the submission together – as well as (obviously!) putting up a reminder to everyone to submit a few days out from the deadline.
The deadline for the submission is Monday 18th February 2019. Each Wednesday leading up to 18th February, we will ‘release’ a third of the report. Then, on Friday 15th February 2019, we’ll remind everyone to complete their submission.
Attached is the first third of the report. This part contains the Executive Summary, and sections 1, 2, and 3. It also has all the references for these sections. It is a PDF file, so we encourage you to print the document out and have a highlighter at the ready! If you’re able to, you might like to use the highlighter function that some PDF readers have available directly on your computer. Once you’re ready to start, we ask that you take your time to read over the first third of the report – noting the things that you LIKE about the report (this is just as important as the negatives), and the areas you think should be revised.
These are YOUR thoughts, so there are no right or wrong answers. The consultation asks for constructive feedback, so the only thing that we ask is that you are considerate in your response.
So, to get started just print out or open the first third of the report sometime this week. The questions we would like you to think about whilst reading are:
- What do I like?
- What do I think could do with some revising?
Make sure to keep notes as you highlight. We’ll use week four to bring these all together.
