The 2025 Federal Election provides opportunities for candidates to address the rights and needs of people living with ME/CFS and long COVID. Too long have our needs been overlooked.
Australia’s ME/CFS organisations are united in their call for election candidates to acknowledge that:
It is right of every person with ME/CFS and long COVID to equitably access safe, affordable, high quality health care and disability and income supports.
We call on electoral parties and independent candidates to commit to:
- Invest in ME/CFS research to identify research priorities to improve understanding of the cause of ME/CFS develop diagnostic tests; and identify effective treatments and approaches to management.
- Invest in clinical education to ensure GPs and health providers manage ME/CFS safely, underpinned by the latest evidence.
- Invest in subsidised ME/CFS and long COVID healthcare and patient support, including access to telehealth, allied health services and in-home care.
- Deliver equitable access to, and within, the NDIS and Disability Support Pension for people with ME/CFS and long COVID.
