Eligibility
Nominations open 1 November 2024 and close 28 February 2025 at midnight AEDT. Extensions cannot be granted
All nominations must have been published or broadcast and available in Australia in 1 January 2024 to 31 December 2024
All nominators must be Australian citizens or permanent residents of Australia
Eligibility for nomination to the Awards is based on independent acts of journalism, free from any commercial or corporate interests
In nominating acts of journalism to the Emerge Australia Awards, the nominator acknowledges that Emerge Australia may seek to reproduce, broadcast and communicate materials submitted for the purposes of promoting the Awards, conducting the presentation ceremony, and making finalists’ and winners’ entries available to the public. If the nominator is the author/publisher, the nominator agrees that Emerge Australia can use the material for these purposes. If the nominator is not the author/publisher, the material must be already published in the public domain to be eligible for entry.
Judges have the right to reject any nomination that in their opinion does not comply with the requirements of the competition. The judges’ decision will be final
Judges reserve the right to withdraw an Award if it later finds the nominator or nominee did not comply with any entry conditions
In the event of any complaint, the nominator agrees to cooperate with Emerge Australia in any investigation that may be deemed necessary.

Judging Criteria
Each nomination into the Emerge Australia Awards is judged on how well it responds to:
Adherence to the Terms and Conditions and Judging criteria
The following judging criteria are applied to all awards administered by Emerge Australia unless explicitly stated otherwise. Judges will consider how the journalism supported the Emerge Australia:
- Vision that Australians with ME/CFS achieve the highest quality of life possible and;
- Mission that every Australian diagnosed with ME/CFS receives effective medical and other services without stigma or discrimination
In addition, judges will consider:
- How the story was initiated and followed
- Newsworthiness
- Consideration of the resources available
- Creativity and innovation
- Research and investigation
- Balance, accuracy, and ethics
- Demonstration of best use of the format/s in which the work was published or broadcast, including clever choices in storytelling
- Excellence in written or verbal communication and/or technical and production skill
- Public impact or benefit, including audience engagement and serving specific communities
