Dr Schloeffel was appointed Medical Director at Emerge Australia in 2022.

Dr Schloeffel graduated from the University of NSW in 1978. He initially trained in Intensive Care Medicine, then Isolated Rural General Practice, gaining his Fellowship of the RACGP in 1983. Dr Schloeffel worked in Rural General Practice and internationally until 1996. From this time Dr Schloeffel has specialised in Complex and Chronic Disorders, especially ME/CFS. 

In 2010, Dr Schloeffel was nominated for Australian of the Year for his work with children and young adults with ME/CFS. In 2017, he was awarded the Order of Australia Medal for “service to medicine in the field of chronic and infectious disease.” In the same year, Dr Schloeffel, received the “Most Outstanding Healthcare Professional in Australia” award from the Australian Patients Association in conjunction with the RACGP. 

In 2020, Dr Schloeffel was appointed as a Senior Clinical Lecturer at Macquarie University in the Neuroscience Department to assist in research into ME/CFS.
