This course is a structured series of online workshops facilitated by our support service nurse educator. It is designed to support you in increasing your knowledge about your energy limits, how energy impacts post-exertional malaise (PEM), and how to pace safely.  

After the course is complete, your group can choose to continue meeting through Emerge Australia’s Volunteer Peer Support Program.

This course is for people who: 
  • Live with ME/CFS or long COVID 
  • Experience PEM 
  • Are aged 18+* 
  • Are new to pacing and haven’t received clear PEM or pacing education 
  • Prefer a live, online learning setting with peer discussion. 

*Participants under 18 may attend with a legal guardian.

What you will need: 
  • An iPad, tablet or laptop*
  • Access to the internet.

*A larger screen is recommended, as mobile phones can be hard to view slide and join in discussions.  

How the course works:
  • Format: A series of 5 live, online workshops, held every 2 weeks* 
  • Time: All workshops start at 1:00pm (Melbourne time) and run for 60 minutes
  • Group size: Maximum of 20 participants
  • Pre-session recordings: Before each workshop, we will send you some pre-session recordings to to watch at your own pace. You’ll also have access to self-paced online learning content throughout.

*There will also be an optional 6th session with Emerge Australia’s support staff to discuss next steps for the group.

Basics course

Best if you’re new to ME/CFS, long COVID, or pacing.

You will learn:

  • How PEM affects energy
  • How to track and manage symptoms
  • How to pace safely in daily life

The online workshops will start at 1:00pm Melbourne time (AEST/AEDT) on the following Tuesdays:

*This 6th date is a meeting with Emerge Australia’s support staff to discuss next steps for if the group would like to continue meeting.

Intermediate course

  • Upright-hour limits
  • Pacing ideas tailored to your lived experience
