Hello to all our supporters and readers of the Emerge Australia newsletter.
I can’t recall a busier and more challenging period in the lead up to the end of the financial year than what we are all currently experiencing – as individuals, communities, organisations.
The global geopolitical landscape as well as our own domestic political landscape leaves a lot to be desired. Whilst we all recognise the challenges faced by government, particularly in the aftermath of the May budget, the impact on our community continues to be felt with justified concerns regarding future access, permanence, functional capacity and issues regarding reasonable treatments among others. Emerge Australia has clearly outlined our concerns on your behalf in our recently lodged submission, and we encourage you all to speak with your local MPs – they need to hear your voices directly. Watch this space as we deliver greater advocacy directly to government in the coming months.
At Emerge Australia, we are well aware that our federal funding ends on 30 November. This is a very sobering thought and to that end we are working tirelessly with a consortium of agencies on our Tier 1 application for funding under the new Chronic Conditions Framework.
Emerge Australia delivers the only federally funded telehealth and patient support service to the ME/CFS and long COVID communities in Australia.
There has never been a more important time to support continuation of our community services. Needless to say, we are legitimately concerned that without government support our work in this area will cease.
One way in which you can make a difference is to support our end of financial year (EOFY) Tax Appeal – Seen. Heard. Supported. This EOFY we highlight the powerful story of Henry.
Henry was just 12 when he contracted COVID-19. Within months, he developed long COVID and ME/CFS. The things that had shaped his childhood, being outdoors, being with friends, simply being well, became out of reach.
Henry’s story is deeply personal. But it is not rare. There are thousands of Henrys across Australia. Many of them are not yet heard.
Your donation to Emerge Australia before 30 June enables us to keep advocating for those living with ME/CFS and long COVID.
