Virtual Support Groups

Emerge Australia’s virtual support groups are for people living with ME/CFS or long COVID, as well as carers. Groups provide a safe, inclusive space to connect, share experiences, and support each other.

How the virtual support groups work

  • Eligibility: Participants must be over 18
  • Group Size: Up to 12 participants
  • Session Format: 6 live sessions, led by a professional facilitator, every 2 weeks
  • Platform: Microsoft Teams
  • You’ll need: A computer, tablet, or smartphone with internet access

These groups are focused on peer support rather than therapy. Participants need to feel able to engage in a group setting and share space with others’ experiences. They are not a substitute for counselling or crisis support, and may not be suitable for people who need a higher level of individual support at this time. If you’re unsure whether this is the right fit, we encourage you to reach out to discuss your needs.

Ongoing peer support

After the initial professionally facilitated sessions, groups can continue meeting as a peer support group. At least one Peer Support Volunteer is needed. Volunteers can receive training and support for this role.

Note: Those who register their interest in becoming a Peer Support Volunteer will be guaranteed a spot in an upcoming virtual support group!
