Dr Jason Lam is a dynamic and multifaceted medical professional with a unique journey from professional dancer to physician. His interest in medicine was sparked during a lung collapse, and thereafter inspired by a marathon of Scrub. After earning his medical degree at Flinders University in South Australia, Dr Lam honed his skills in Plastic Surgery and Dermatology across various tertiary hospitals in the Northern Territory and New South Wales before obtaining his fellowship with the Royal College of General Practice and beginning training with the Australian College of Sport and Exercise Medicine.

As a neurodivergent philomath/chaos-goblin, Dr Lam embraces a holistic and collaborative approach to patient care, prioritising connection and understanding. His diverse interests range from surgery and dermatology to sports medicine and pain management, but it’s his personal experience with complex conditions, including ME/CFS, that particularly drives his commitment to patient advocacy. Having personally navigated the challenges of hypermobility, orthostatic hypotension/POTS, and ME/CFS following septic shock, he understands firsthand the struggles faced by those living with these complex and chronic illnesses.

Dr Lam is proud to be part of The Australian EDS and HSD Network, is on the scientific and medical advisory committee with Connective Tissue Diseases Australia and actively engages in medical education, research, and public speaking on topics such as hypermobility, neurodivergence, and chronic illness. With a touch of whimsy and a penchant for the unconventional, he brings a refreshing perspective to the conversation around ME/CFS.

We don’t need 100% of GPs to become experts in this (though it would be nice) – we need GPs to be kind, curious and compassionate, to bring that whole person care we claim we do well to this disease, and to support patients. We can already do so much without needing to get too far down a rabbit hole.

Join Dr Jason Lam and Anne Wilson, CEO of Emerge Australia, as they delve into the complexities of ME/CFS in this action-packed and illuminating podcast. Together, they aim to foster understanding, share insights, and empower those affected by this often-misunderstood condition.

The amount of medical trauma that these patients have experienced is immense. I was gaslit even with my immense privilege. I can only begin to imagine the experience of patients living with ME/CFS and intersectionality – there are huge challenges and vast inequity in this condition.
